I grew up in Hopkins County, KY. We watched The Big Show on Nashville’s Channel 5 as often as possible. Great memories. The Big Show was our rural window to the world of movies, edited or not. Who cared? With only 3 network channels and PBS/KET coming in on an antenna on the tower, we had the opportunity to go to the movies from the floor of our living room. Home-popped corn slathered with butter and a big glass of sweet tea or Kool-aid was always a great after-school snack! I was born 1960 in Cookeville, TN 70 miles east of Nashville. Out in the country took the bus nearly an hour to get to our house as we were last ones off. Take off running down our long drive way to the house about 200 yards, and just whip in the living room and fire up the big console B&W TV...took a minute for the tunes to warm up and the picture to come on and we'd race to get a drink and snack and hit the couch or slide on the floor to in front of the TV.
Also watched "Dark Shadows" once Barnabas showed up. Don't remember what time it came on but must have been at 3 because I remember missing most of it and determinedly watching the whole episodes during summer.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5149925183300069246.post-60555464817733707512023-08-20T14:35:52.491-07:002023-08-20T14:35:52.491-07:00Actually, when the Big Show aired at 4 PM, it was ...Actually, when the Big Show aired at 4 PM, it was just 85 minutes and not 90. I lived south of Nashville and so remember coming home and watching these movies almost every afternoon. There's one I've been trying to find...A Sci-Fi hero find himself in a land where they sacrifice beautiful women periodically, and when they pull the women back, they've been burned to a crisp. Come to find out, they're inside some planet (maybe Earth?) and they put the women out on a mountain ledge and it's the sun that burns them. They're like some kind of mole people. All the movies were "B" movies and probably is one of the reasons I resisted any kind of intellectual work out. They'd probably drive me screaming from a room now!
But, thanks for doing the research and sharing!
